If you are nearing age 65, you may know that you are getting close to being eligible for Medicare. Once you are three months away from turning 65, you will enter what is known as your Initial Enrollment Period. This period will last up until three months after your 65th birthday month, providing you with a total of seven months to enroll in Medicare for the first time.

At Toni Buffington Medicare Solutions, we always recommend that you enroll in Medicare as soon as you become eligible! Delaying your Medicare enrollment past your Initial Enrollment Period can lead to late enrollment penalties, but if you do miss your Initial Enrollment, you still have a chance to enroll.
You can enroll during the General Enrollment Period, which is from January 1 to March 31 and is available every year. However, your coverage won’t begin until July 1 if you choose to enroll during this period.
There is a possibility for you to not have to pay the late enrollment penalties if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
If you’re still unsure about the enrollment process with Medicare, we’re here to help! We will walk you through every step of the way so you feel confident in your enrollment and can avoid late enrollment penalties.
