Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans

Medicare Advantage Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans are a type of Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan intended for those eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.

These plans are also required to provide the same coverage as Original Medicare, which includes coverage for inpatient and outpatient services. Special Needs Plans are also required to provide prescription drug coverage.

Enrolling in a Medicare Special Needs Plan

You can enroll at any time during your Initial Enrollment Period, the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7), or during a Special Enrollment Period if one of the following occurs:

  • Moving outside of your current plan’s service area
  • Qualifying for Medicaid
  • Moving into, living in, or moving out of an institution
  • Being diagnosed with a severe or chronic condition that qualifies you for a Chronic Condition SNP
